One of the largest PR platforms will launch it’s annual event in just under a week. I speak of course of San Diego Comicon. Before you completely write off the topic you should understand that Comcicon is the epitome of trend setting, culture and critical mass. The annual event first began as a gathering place for comic book and science fiction fans to gather, trade and discuss news and events from the comic book industry. My how the times have changed as Comicon is now the hub all pop culture where trend setters attempt to plant the seeds that will grow throughout the following year.
Of course the comic book component remains where the majority of people that attend are there because they are fans of a franchise, but these franchises span much further now. With movie and Internet franchises looking for that instant hit of critical mass, Comicon is often the planned date for launching new ideas, new experiences and simply news on things that will make waves in the coming year. Just as an example, we’ve all heard of the Twilight series, well Comicon was the place where movie producers announced their cast. I’m not saying that Comicon is the reason for the Twilight success, but it was a conscious decision to hold off on announcing the casting news until the global event.
Movies, video games, television shows, Internet properties, board games, books and some of the best costume contests in the world are upon us and in just under a week’s time we’ll all be hearing about what’s going on at San Diego Comicon.
